Stonehenge
Stonehenge is a man-made megalithic monumental Stone circle located in Salisbury plain, Wiltshire, UK. It was built in several different phases from around 3100BC to 1100BC. The number of phases is uncertain.
Stonehenge comprises of a circular ditch, 300 feet or 91 metres in diameter, an earthwork avenue to the north east, a large unworked stone, known as the Heel stone or friars stone, the slaughter stone in the centre of the henge, two smaller Sarsen stones located south-east of the circle, a ring of what used to be 30 Trilithons but is now 16, a ring of bluestones, five horseshoe shaped trilithons in the central circle and an unworked stone called the altar stone. The size of the henge in diameter is 108 feet or 33 metres.
How stonehenge was built, by whom and for what purpose remains a mystery to this very day and perhaps we'll never truly know the answer. Theories are varied and range from alien abductions, to a place of healing to a calendar and much more.
